Starting to think, it must just be me. Having a bit of the day-after funk here. Bush and the Republicains, have won a 'historic' victory. The 'enlightened self interest' of the American people have spoken. With Bushie's two month vacations and endless campaining, just who in hell is minding the store? Will have to give him credit, his speech after 9-11 was the spirit of America, dead on, and admit didn't think he had it in him. Since then, what? A renewed growth of the national debt, a sagging stock market, revealations of rampant white collar crime and insider trading abuses reaching into the administration, and a return to "acceptable" unemployment levels. This inspite of the lowest interest rates in resent history. Republicains are "good for business," right?

Foriegn affairs, is also one of their strong suits, too. From near unity of the western world after 9-11, we see anti-americanism growing within even our most reliable allies. Moving from a reactive, defensive posture to one of unilateral intervention, is this administration's vision of leadership of the 'free world.' Why? Because we can. Now that's a new concept. The loudest calls for war, coming from within their ranks by those, who haven't served one day in harm's way. Bush, well he did serve time in the "Champagne Flight" of the Texas Air National Guard, a real warrior that one. Sadam is no choir boy for sure, and now that we've threatened him, wouldn't doubt that he might well give aid to our most dangerous enemies. But what of North Korea, one of a host, that me sees as more of a real threat to the USA? Oh yeah, he wanted to kill Bushie's daddy. Well that's sure worth a few of our childern's lives. What happened to "the War on Terrorism," is that over, did we win? And "the War on Drugs," isn't that getting kind'a hot down in South America? These Republicains, for being so short on actual fighting, sure seem to like their "Wars."

Of course it must be said, there really wasn't an alternative vision offered. And since there are only two choices.., well, we the people, can't seem to hold more than two choices in our heads, anyways. It isn't about voting for the person, who may offer the soundest solutions, or the one, who holds a vision most closest to your own, but voting for the "Winner," that counts. Or the lesser of two evils, perhaps. When all is said and done, "A people" really does deserve the government they have and tolerate.

Now we can look forward to a more entrenched dependence on oil as an energy source, forget about 'renewable sources.' Freedom of Choice, in abortions, well, that will become a memory, they can now appoint judgeships unencumbered accross the land, that we will live out our lives under their influence. Who better to make the call, than the one, who must live with the consequences? The eviroment is just a resource to be exploited. What's left of the 'tax burden' for the mega-wealthy, can now be freely shifted to those still stuggling for their share of the 'good life.' Health care, education, national security, on and on, "sound bite" and "photo opt" solutions, who needs substance when appearences is what really counts. "The People" have spoken...

The people have indeed spoken. In my state, where people bitch constantly about traffic, they voted against a gas tax bill to make improvements and voted to keep car licensing cheap. I am going to start looking for an alternative place to live. Traffic is so bad it can take an hour to go 5 miles part of the day and I am personally quite willing to shell out $50 a year to improve transportation. A dollar amount obvously too high for voters to want to waste hundreds of hours a year sitting in traffic. Amazing how people value their time. When traffic goes from really bad to disasterously bad the voters will no doubt go to the politicians for blame because it's never them and their cheapness. When their child dies because the ambulance is stuck in traffic I will refrain from laughing but a few dollars a year is just too much for safety and efficiency. So is there anywhere on Earth where people don't want everything for nothing and are smart enough to know that if you want a nice place to live you invest in it?
