What amazes me is that even though we as a society teach young children that violence is generally wrong, we still expose them to a lot of it.

I wonder how many households exist like the Flander's. The kind where the kids sit around all day and play bible quest and pray every day. I'm pretty sure that in the majority of houses nothing is stopping a young child from turning on the tv and witnessing some form of violence, lets face it there is violence in almost all programming (except stations geared towards young kids).

I also have noticed that kids even see violence, albeit not grotesque, in childrens literature. Let's just use the three little pigs as an example; where the wolf is trying to cause harm to the pigs and in the end of some versions, the wolf is killed in some way and perhaps eaten by the pigs.

It's become an unfortunate reality that no matter what we do we cannot escape the influence of violence in all its forms.

Another good example of promoting violence that I just thought of would have to be sports. There is violence in all levels of sports and in some cases it is actually encouraged. If you can't outplay your opponent, just try to hurt them.

Professional football is a place where 350+ pound men batter each other daily. It is violence.

I suppose television glorifies violence somewhat, but it's still fiction. What teaches violence is the reality that it's based on. What teaches it is people like George Bush and Bill Clinton that teach that murder is a good idea.

I stand on belief the Geo W is trying to prove he is not Bush Lite. He learned hatred of Saddam fron his father and will not let it go. I am glad Gore decided not to run but someone with a cooler head needs to run the US. If Saddam is not a threat to us until we threaten him. Let his country have him. We are the agressor here. A war Iraq will just prove that they were right in building a defense against us. PEACE NOW. I was against Viet Nam and still want Peace today.

You know @tomic I probably could stand to apologize here. I didn't want to take the time to get into a detailed discussion here and was responding in a quick way to avoid that so I'm sure I wasn't clear. The U.S. brutally attacked the former Yugoslavia, helped to make things worse and is still a part of the problems that those people have there. They are not the whole problem, certainly, but they are a large part of the problem and they definitely are still working to make things worse.
