Doomar--Dood. The answer to the first question above is of course! There will always be some element of our pride involved in our arguments, no matter who we are, or what our belief system. The real question is, "Are our arguments sound, and based real physical evidence?" Plus, "Have we honestly weighed the points of our oponent in this debate?"
Next, "sin" is not a concern of mine. Sin is a religious contrivance designed to control the actions people with the promise of retribution in an afterlife. I subscribe to a better and more meaningful moral system. My morality is based upon social responsibility, and the needs and desires of individuals and of my society as a whole. I do not act in a 'right' manner simply because I am going to be rewarded or punished in another life, like a child caught with her hand in the cookie jar. My salvation lies in the knowledge of my contribution to my community, not in prostrating myself before an egotistical and jealous diety that fits all the moral attributes of a petty dictator.
Now, to expand upon what Kil already brought up, there are a large volume of postings to the Religion and Creation/Evolution categories because these categories have the largest volume of adherents to the supernatural posting to them. Believe me, if there were an equal number of proponents of the supernatural and pseudoscience posting to the UFO and the Cryptozoology forums, we'd be over there and just as boisterous. Man, Hoodoo is Hoodoo, no matter if it's a god with a foreskin fetish, or "topless aliens." |

I forgot to mention that, yes, we may at times appear to take Christians more seriously than, shall we say, psychics, but that is only because psychics are not trying to get legislation passed to teach their hoodoo to our children like it's of equal value as science. When theists can prove to me that there book of magic can find oil, or a cure for cancer, then I may consider equal billing. Until then, you can practice your hoodoo anyway you like. just don't try to ram it down my kid's throat. |

One word comes to mind. Ridiculous It has been asked more than once, but "Why would god create us with this incredible brain and then expect us not to use it?"
I think there is an even more fundamental question there, you just added to much on the end of it..."Why would God create us?"
I'm new to this skeptic site (love it btw), have only read a teeny amount of the material so I may have missed the answer to that. Would like to hear what the 'believers' got to say though! |

Well, mdmx, you may have to wait a while. I think since this war thing started, the 'true believers' seem to have vanished. Maybe, they're off praying for the death of the evil enemy, or just glued to Fox news channel. I dunno, but I kinda miss'em. They're so cute when they get excited.
Anyway, welcome to the board, and hope to see you hang around for a while. |

Thanks Tim...glad to be here...although I haven't had a chance to miss 'em yet, I love the previous posts I've read. You know though, I really think that if we were ever able to convert all the 'believers', people would really forget how to use their brain...if there is nothing to argue against, why argue and hence why think about anything...at the least, this forum would be awful boring..hehe!! I found this site after somehow coming across AiG.org, WOW! is all I can say...ah-ha, now I remeber how I found it, I was looking up to see if the Flat Earth Society was an honest to 'God' (excuse the slip there) organization...thank goodness for loonies, makes for a bit of fun! I'm in contacat with 'Dr.' Sarfati as I post this...when I get done with the thread, I believe I may post it here, looks like it may turn out interesting!! |

If you're going to be dealing with that guy, here's a site with some links that may (or may not) be useful. http://home.austarnet.com.au/stear/dr_jonathan_sarfati.htm

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.
Another example of this guy's lunacy here. |

"To take a stand against religion and God or faith seems to be a truly negative and, possibly, worthless endeavor, yet it is the focal point of much effort by the avowed skeptic."
It has been said that a philosopher is a blind man who enters a darkened room to look for a black cat that isn't there. And that a theologian is a blind man who enters a darkened room to look for a black cat that isn't there, and finds it.

Hi mdmx123, and welcome.
Please do post your conversations with Dr. Sarfati. It would surely be of intrest to us.
Sarfati incidently, is the real deal. He's got him a real, honest to Quetzacoatl, PhD and everything. I think his doctorate is in chemistry. Which shows that nincompoops can be found most anywhere and education means little in that catagory.
Hope you enjoy the forum.
