On the white wedding dress: THE ORIGIN OF THE TRADITIONAL WHITE WEDDING DRESS
In 1499, Ann of Brittany popularized the white wedding gown. Prior to that time, a woman simply wore her best dress or a new dress without regard to the basic color.
Note: I had believed it was Queen Victoria who had popularized it but it predates her by a fair amount. Most women were not wealthy enough to cater to the church by wearing a white dress (white does not wear well!)
Pah, most of the anti-female rhetoric in the Bible is from Paul anyways. (Guess he never got any.) Don't judge a man by the color of his skin but judge the race of men by their mammaries? Doesn't make sense to me, personally.
Oh, and I know someone who claims to be able to translate tongues.. she claims a great many other things as well. I think she was finished on religious arguments with me when I was around 15; I wouldn't take everything she said without question, therefore I be a doubter! (so was Thomas, you know!)
Good judgement comes from experience: experience comes from bad judgement. |

Its not so much the dress referring to virginity as it is the veil. A woman who is a virgin is allowed to wear the veil covering her face. This is so the first man to whom she is presented publically is her husband. It is also a statement from the father to the husband of the girls purity. If your not pure then you must not wear the veil covering your face. The mark of a woman who has *known* man.
I guess if I get married, I'll do it in jeans anyway.

Yep, that's what I did. Not for any spiritual or social reason, but because I'm cheap. I've seen friends of mine sink thousands of dollars into a wedding. If something is going to cost twice the amount of a Jamaica vacation, I think I'll go to Jamaica twice. Ed and I love each other dearly, and I don't think a white dress, tux, and all the flowery trimmings could increase that. I don't know if I'm just missing the romance gene or what, but I've been to quite a few weddings, and all I could think of was "this is silly". Lisa
