How about nailing ourselves to a stick and flagellating ourselves ala the flagellates of the 1340's when the Black Plague struck Europe!!

Now for the apologetics
quote:
American missionary Cecil Sullivan of Illinois said the practice was against Christian principles and ''is a proof that you can be very sincere but be sincerely wrong.''
The Rev. Victor Nicdao said he sympathizes with the devotees, who mostly come from very poor families and may have created their own rituals because they felt alienated from the church.
''This group is not what would be called church people. The very church building is alienating, the way it is constructed. Even the liturgy is something they don't relate to,'' he said.

Ah but Jesus himself condones acts of self-mutilation

and
http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com/mt/18.html#8

Not to mention he supposidly set the utltimate example by allowing himself to undergo such torments. WWJD? Let himself be mutilated!

Whew, talk about S&M lifestyles. Hey, if that's there idea of fun...

Personally, I'm going to enjoy my three day weekend, if all I do is work around the house.

Have you seen the movie The Seventh Seal ?

Not only is it a great existentialist movie (as well as on my top 5 of best movies), but that scene with the flagellates convoy during the Black Plague is just great. How could I not think about it while reading your post !

When Dennis got home today I mentioned I hadn't had time to check the stock market yet for the day. He said, it wasn't open. I said WHAT?!!!
He said 'Good Friday'. I said, yeah I'd heard of it but since when did they close the market for that?
So I'm going to spend the weekend being pissed that I didn't get to make any trades today.

As a side note, he didn't like the fact that a religious day should have anything to do with the market or the government and added that they should have a Buddhist day too if they are going to have everything else!
Ok, see ya.....got to go color some eggs.

We have a child, so the Easter Bunny is great fun! I don't know why, but the kids seem to love the big furry lug, and all of the cool candy, of course!

If her Daddy decides to go to early mass before we pick the little darling up, well, that's okay, too.

What WE aren't going to do is hit ourelves with floggers. Or, go listen to a lunatic scream at us about how we're all going to hell. Or, kneel down reciting prepared call and response prayers 'till the boredom drives us nuts...It all kinda reminds me of the old days; The days of pickin' cotton, bossman, lashings, and field hollers.

Man, the more I think about the relationship one has the God, the weirder it seems.

Mmmm. Easter bunny. With onion and oyster stuffing, and baked potato. Also acorn squash, and followed with a shot of any whiskey but the cheap stuff I normally drink. That's so good it'll hurt ya!

I used to make Easter baskets....it was really quite profitable. It cost me $6 to make and people would buy it for $15...some people even paid as much as $20. I think around November of this year I am going to start making them again. Let's see...1200 baskets will get me $10,800 above what they cost me to make. Not bad! Of course, I could never make those many baskets now because I don't have time, but I could make half of that without too much effort. That could pay for my Easter holiday! Yeah, that is what I'll be doing next year....laying on a beach in Spain or Portugal couresty of the Easter bunny! Should I sign all of you hard skeptics up for buying a basket from me next year?

Oh hell yes. Sign me up and enjoy the sun 'n the beach.

I pulled the Easter bunny for dinner gag on an ex-girlfriend years ago. I knew someone who raised meat rabbits and got two from him. He even dressed them for me.

It was delicious. The girlfriend and her daughter thought it was perfectly awful that I could cook and devour cute, little bunnys, especally on Easter, but they shared in the feast, anyway. Go figger.

Alas, I have no rabbit this year, so I can't have the traditional celebration (sadness). But a fine basket to carry the bunny home in, for next year, would be nice.

Sorry Poe, I have to save as much money as I can now and I already have a collection of baskets*.
BUT, when I open my art gallery you are welcome to display them. Maybe you'll make some sales there too. Can I have 10% commission?

*although, ya never know, there's always room for one more!

Filthy, Filthy, Filthy.....no, no, no. This is where we part company.
How could you? Sorry, I'm with your ex AND I wouldn't have eaten them. Yuk!
But I'm sure you are a nice guy otherwise.

(Somebody had to ask...)

Keeping in mind that in other posts I've mentioned I'm a hypocrite.
But that doesn't take away from the idea that I find cutting into flesh and blood disgusting.
Further, Man IMO is primitive when he still eats meat. I don't see the need for it. I love other animals and would rather not kill them for that purpous.
