Dammit, I had a whole reply typed out last night. I think I forgot to hit "Submit."

I very much believe in "free will," which is why I am very skeptical that this-or-that would have "almost certainly" happened (or not) had Thurmond been President. People being people, they often do not do what you'd expect.

Thurmond was a horrible hateful segregationist. When the black man became a voting force Thumond became a champion for civil rights. I think if his constituents were satan worshippers he would try to enact laws that permitted sacrificing babies.

The only thing that Thurmond truly believed in, as near as I can tell, is that he should remain in elected office at all costs.
If I knew then what I know now then I would know more now than I know.
