I dont know about this....Snake seems pretty skeptical about T.V. programs..but if its gonna turn into a talk about Sci-fi, maybe general discussion is o.k.

Thank you for your support Peny. Guess the main thing is we are free to discuss it where ever we are.
However TV, as you pointed out, has been pretty bad for a long time. And, yes, I am skeptical that it will get better.

I catch it occasionally. Why the heck do they put it on Friday nights? Did you see it last night? Is this the end of the series? Or just a "stay tuned til next week/season? WTF

Well, I dont want to give anything away, but I know next week is a new episode, and since the whole thing revolves around John, I am reasonably sure there is an answer. I do know what the answer is but If I say, I might ruin it for others. Just stay tuned.

Speaking of crime shows. I couldn't find a folder for movie chat so I'll just add this here: I bought a tape of the movie 'Casino' a couple of weeks ago at Costco. Didn't get a pizza though at the time. Watched it this afternoon. At least it was better then the 'Godfather'. Very good art direction, photography and sound tract.

I try to avoid television as much as possible. If I want news, I can get better news online from The New York Times or scientific news online and in paper form from my favorite scientific magazines and/or journals (Science, Nature, Physics Today, PASP, Science News, Sky & Telescope, Astronomy, Scientific American, etc.) If I watched much television (which is usually mind-numbing), I would not have time to use my computer or to read. I do not waste my time with ordinary newspapers or with television, because most of their news items simply fill up space and (particularly with television news) are full of pseudoscientific and religious baloney. I read the Wall Street Journal during the week (when I have the time). Cable is a waste of money. There are only so many hours in the day and most of my time is taken.
Not knowing by every second all of the horrible things which are going on in the world (which one cannot control) helps promote a better sense of life.
I do keep myself informed, but my own way. I do not permit myself to be clobbered by the ignorance-peddling media.

You mean you don't do all that at the same time? The TV can be on while you are at the computer. quote: I do not waste my time with ordinary newspapers or with television, because most of their news items simply fill up space and (particularly with television news) are full of pseudoscientific and religious baloney.
Don't forget, we really need to know the latest celebrity who is getting married and divorced. And sit through a car chase listening to the speculations of the news people as to why the person is speeding on the streets, when they don't know anything.

I don't read finance papers, but I like to watch the Nightly Bussiness Report on PBS for entertainment. Paul Kangus is cool. I don't buy a stock because of anything I've read in a paper or heard somewhere.

You got that right. I think it's such a joke when a rapist or child molester is caught and people in the neighborhood are interviewed and say, they feel safe now. Don't they think stuff happens all the time or could happen anytime?

What? Isn't your PC in the same room as your TV? I read the newspaper every single day when I get home and watch TV at the same time. Granted, most of the time, the TV is on just for noise. However, I do agree that most of the stuff on TV is getting to be mind-numbing, especially the last broadscast TV season.

Apparently, you and I are reading and watching two different things, because here in Minneapolis, it ain't like that. Heck, just this morning I read an article on how astronomers have seen almost all the way back to the beginning of the universe, to within 900 million years of the Big Bang.quote: Cable is a waste of money.
This is where I'd have to disagree with you. I have found some very good shows on cable television. In fact, one of them I'm watching right now, called The Crocodile Hunter. It's very good.

About the only thing I'd watch on TV continuosly is the weather channel. And that's only because up here we can get severe snow storms and severe thunderstorms really quick.

I just watch the weather.

I never watch the weather....on TV. If I want to watch it I can go outside. Thanks for the info though, I always wondered why someone would want to know what it's going to be like. In California it's (supposed to be) sunny all the time so there's no need to watch, nothing ever changes.

I can't remember where I read this...I think in a magazine on one of my many airport layovers, but I think this is completely amazing!!! This is what I consider good reading. I'm surprised this wasn't plastered all over the news...instead we see who got murdered, who got kidnapped...etc..sigh.

Check your local PBS TV listings this week,....on PBS will be "Nerds 2.0.1: A Brief History of the Internet".
"This special chronicles the growth of the Internet and how self-described "geeks" have turned into billionaires. These are the pioneers and creative thinkers who continue to change the way people live and work as profoundly as the telephone and television did earlier this century. This provocative program is hosted by industry specialist and PBS ONLINE columnist Robert X. Cringely. Cringely shows viewers how computers around the world were wired to create the Internet, an industry fundamentally altering the nature of business, communications and world culture. With flair and humor, Cringely explains the Internet so even the most Web-shy will understand it."
Think this may had run last year. Excellent run-thru of this marvelous tool in today's society.

Think this may HAVE run last year. Don't know if it's the same program but I saw the one about the history of the computer a couple of times over the past few years. Great show. Don't you love it when IBM says, who would want a personal computer? Forgot to thank you for telling us about that program. Thank you.

That was a good one too. But it was not about the internet, it was a docu-drama about the early players with the personal computer...Steve Wosniak, Jobs, Gates. I recorded it. Interesting. Yeah, the IBM - Bill Gates meeting back then, when Gates was selling them his DOS system. IBM said, "Well, the real money is in the computer." They agreed to Gates selling his software to other pc builders! That was the instant in time where his billions and billions started. |

The folder says 'A Reason to Watch TV Again' but this post is a question about not watching again. Did anyone actually watch that show that was advertised on, I think it was NBC, 'She Spys'? The clips they kept showing were so stupid, I'm wondering who would think that's an interesting show from the publicity they gave it. It looked more like it should be on the Saturday morning cartoons for 5 years olds. But perhaps I'm misjudging. I did not see the shows premier tonight. So if anyone did, tell me I'm wrong and it's not mindless nonsense.
