Over at JREF, they're talking about trying to have a skeptic soiree sometime next Feb in Ft Lauderdale. (For our Brit friends, that would be sceptic) If anyone is mildly interested in details, let me know. Lisa

Right now, that sounds like a good idea, especially after a Minnesota winter.
As of right now, I'm willing to go. By the holidays I'll know more.

I'm in. Hell, I live in Florida and I have friends in Miami. No excuse for me to miss it.

Isn't Florida hot and icky? Even at that time of year? I avoid heat and humidity if at all possible.

The humidity isn't as bad on the east coast compared to the northwest here. It's still damn hot but there's a significant difference between wet Pensacola heat and dry Miami heat.

The few percent difference in the humidity level between the East and Gulf coasts or the inland is negilible for those of us from Colorado. Our humidity level is typically about 35% (we're classified as semi-arid). I used to live in Daytona, and I don't remember the humidity being less than 80% (usually about 90%).
Having said that. February should be quite nice. Although humid, the temps are typically in the 70's. If you can swing it, February is good time to visit the tourist attractions: Disney World, the Cape.

Thanks for the responses. A couple of minor sticking points have been ironed out, and it looks like this thing will be a "go". Even Randi is starting to talk up the idea on his Thursday radio show. Right now we're to the point where we're arguing about what we want the convention to be like. Let's face it, organising skeptics=herding cats. Lisa

Jec, are you serious? Or are you still wandering around with that bottle of tanning oil looking for volunteers? Lisa

I live in Michigan where it is great all year around. In winter, there are the many winter sports; in summer, there is sailing, swimming, lying around getting sunburnt, etc.
In Spring and in Fall, the weather is very pleasant.
And we have a great symphony orchestra!
PURE PLEASURE!
I used to know a guy, a science teacher from Hawaii (original Hawaiian), who loved Michigan! He loved the snow and the cold and thought it was a lot greater than same old, same old Hawaii.

Once we get final numbers on everything, I will be going.
