This question is to any person that can help.
Why is it, that sometimes I see avatars and sometimes I just get the little white box with the little tricolour icon?

If by "tricolour icon" you mean the standard "can't load image" icon for whatever browser you're using, it's because when people register for the first time or go back later and change their profile information (signature, favorite quote, etc.), and without having an avatar selected, there's a little bug in the code which makes the non-avatar "break." I try to clean those up as soon as I see 'em, by setting those people's avatars back to "None," but I can't be here 24/7 (though I wish I could).

I don't mean that I can see your avatar, but can't see mine or snake's, then I can't see Filthy's, but can see Valiant Dancer's (what a homo pseudonym )
I mean, somedays I see 'em all, some days I don't see any.
Could it be my security settings or similar do you think.

Oh, geez. Yeah, that problem is probably on your end, welshdean, but let's wait for @tomic to chime in before doing anything drastic to your settings. After all, they're just avatars.

I have that too and it's my security. Don't know why.

This may be stating the obvious - but you'll also see that little red cross thing if the photo hosting site is temporarily out of action.
