I put this in Politics, but it would fit just as well in Humor or perhaps even Health -- after all Reagan, in another moment of mind-loss, gibbered that it is a vegetable that should be on school menus.....

quote:
Forget Iraq. Forget the world economy, or terrorism, or America's deteriorating global image. What the 2004 US presidential election is really about is a fight over politically incorrect fast food.

First came the infamous furore over French fries - renamed "freedom fries" by a certain faction of patriotic Republicans. Now battle has been joined over the accompanying item on the menu - tomato ketchup.

The idiot season is truly idiotic this year. :laughter:

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Hold up. Since when can republicans not use products made by democrates? Wow. Just..... wow. People are so incredibly dumb, Dave, I don't think we are going to make it out of this century, let alone 5 billion years (refering to another post in the Creation/Evolution section).

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

Not to steer this the wrong way, but here's The Straight Dope on Ronnie and the ketchup.

Hmph. Might'a known Cecil'd have something sensible on it. Phooey! Takes all the fun of Reagan-bashing away, freakin' know-it-all, spoil-sport.

I well remember the actually hilarious kerfluffle over this idiotcy. Ronnie caught a lot of maybe only a little deserved flack over it, not least from myself. It is in reality, a prime example of good intentions, and we all know what that happy ol' road to hell is paved with.

On the other hand, there are some kids who actually like lima beads a lot better than ketchup -- I was one of them and both of my daughters as well. Substituting a weak condiment for an honest veggie is stupid.

And the ketchup wars continue. The other day, I bought a small bottle of Heinz with nothing more on my mind than having something to put on homemade onion rings and I like Heinz. Now that there is silliness involved, I think I just might buy another.

I can only hope that these people actually know that the rest of the world is looking at them, that we can see them while they're working hard for homeland security by renaming french fries, condemning nipples and now boycotting ketchup... and that we sometimes laugh at them.

My impression is that it's more a constant howler.

Just the phrase "conservative condiment" makes me giggle.

Maybe they should trademark "W". Kinda like "fair and balanced."
