Sunday's Ny Times featured a story about the plans for GOP's latest campaign tactics. According to the story, the campaign "plan[s] to cap the month [of August] at the Republican convention in New York, which they said would feature Mr. Kerry as an object of humor and calculated derision."

Looks like we'll see a repeat of 2000, when Gore was routinely mocked and trashed by the RNC, at the same time being aided by our hapless Washington press corps, which refused to call bull shit on them.

The worst part is that it's hard to fight against this sort of tactic. The only way to dismiss a claim like "you're a flip-flopper" or "you said you invented the internet" is to go into detail and offer specifics about how you voted, or what you said. But by then, too many Americans have tuned out-- their attention spans are too short-- and they happily recite the spin points all the way to the voting booth.

Pay attention to what comes next from Bush and the RNC, and be very afraid.

Perhaps another way to counter simplistic accusations is to first bluntly state: "Lies!" Followed then by setting records straight.

I like to say things like, "You embarrass yourself and your mother repeating lies like that."

Cut the GOP a little slack, why don'tcha? As far as I can see, mud-slingging, and outright lies is all they've got. They certainly can't campaign on Bush's accomplishments, although they might try -- after a bit of loose interpretation of the word; 'accomplishment'.

I understand that none other than Jerry Falwell is going to give the invocation at the convention. That, honoring one of the country's more notable blatherskites, pretty much tell's you where they are coming from.

Also, they are now trying to get the Catholics stirred up against Kerry. So what next? A Innocent III memorial? I am so jaded by official, Bush bullshit that even that bit of foulness would not suprise me.

Does that come before or after Bush is touted for personally wetting himself at the Battle of Baden Hill?

Hehe.

I had the wrong pope; it was Innocent III, rather than Pious VII that was the world-class asshole. Dunno what happened. Anyhow, here the bastard is:

http://atheism.about.com/library/glossary/western/bldef_innocentiii.htm

I didn't know Bush got close enough to any battle to wet himself. Innocent and Bush make a pretty good pair, do they not? How history does repeat itself!
