I've blown a steer tire at interstate speed. If one craves excitement, I reccommend it.

Brake drums need to be checked for cracks on a regular basis, especally if a lot of mountain driving is done. Those brakes get hot! I once got an air leak in a hose leading from the tractor to the trailer brakes, that cost me those brakes. I came down the Sandstone Hill in WV with the tractor smoking like a volcano and made the bottom with no air pressure and no brakes at all. I came within an ace of losing the truck. It's the driver's responsibility to keep track of this, but some don't. I did, but missed the bad hose. Scary!

There are too many things that can happen under normal conditions without tempting fate with stupidity.

There are so many sharp suggestions to this subject, it boggles my little mind. Incidentally, I always make certain that there is time for me and my tailgater to stop. I put his time in front of me added to the time I would need to stop. Tailgating my car never works to the tailgater's advantage. I do not expect to have a silly rear-end collision unless, of course, the ignorant tailgater wants to get revenge for my safe driving. (I write "ignorant", because really "stupid" people would never get a license in the first place. Then again, "stupid" people without licenses have been known to get behind the wheels of cars.)

I guess that skeptics are always good drivers. Good brains!
