A perfect example, I think, of the reasoning that lets people to keep on believing no matter what happens: This quote is taken from the site Celebrity Prayers:

quote:
I can imagine that you think 'Why should we pray? Would it make any difference?'. The answer is yes, it will make a difference, for sure. I'm not saying a prayer is a kind of formula and once you've said 'amen' everything will change in the blink of an eye. But it's a fact that prayer is powerful, no matter who you're praying for or how long it will take to see a difference.

Maybe the outcome isn't what you expected it to be, but that doesn't say prayer doesn't have power. It just doesn't have your power, but the power of God. I've been praying for a musician since November 2003. And up until now I haven't seen anything that would make me think he's getting closer to God. Only the opposite. But that's no reason to lose your faith in the power of prayer. It should be a stimulation to continue! I've caught myself thinking praying was hopeless.

Would I be able to draw God's attention? But than somebody told me I should look at it from another point of view. Is it true that I am trying to draw God's attention? Or is it God who has asked me to pray, and so has started a work of His hand, which He promised to finish? This gives a lot more hope and faith, even if it seems to take a long time.

Please, don't let time discourage you. If God asks us to pray, who are we to decide to quit? He will let you know, He will. There are a lot of things on this earth to pray for, so why would He waste time by letting you pray for someone, while it doesn't have any effect at all? He wouldn't do that. Time is too precious.

I'd highlight all the deluded parts, but that'd take too long!

EDIT: I've jigged up the paragraphs myself for readability.

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Another example of this guy's lunacy here.

Maybe the big fella is just messing with you. It seems to be his favorite pastime if you believe his own book.

The foundation of morality is to . . . give up pretending to believe that for which there is no evidence, and repeating unintelligible propositions about things beyond the possibliities of knowledge.
