Oh my gosh! Winston Wu has taken it upon himself to officially criticize skeptics. Well, I can't say that surprises me. His war on rational thought has been going on for years now. At one time, several years ago, I entered into a debate with him in the skeptical threads of the ACLU boards at AOL. At that time he posted as WuWu. Sorry to say, those boards were shut down. AOL had a problem with free speech and ended its association with the ACLU. (As a side note to this digression, SFN and its earlier incarnation The Truth and Other Lies was set up outside of AOL to make sure that there would be no interference by AOL with regard to our content.)
Anyhow, that skeptics frustrate Wu is apparent. What Wu will apparently never understand is the bar for what can be regarded as evidence of psi, or any other claim for that matter, is set much higher on the critical thinking side of things than it is for those who claim that psi happens. Psi believers often accept anecdotal evidence, for example.
I will read all of this stuff Storm. The response to Wu alone is eighty pages long, and I am busy. So this may take a while.
But knowing Wu and his objections past, my guess is he will continue to rely on logical fallacies to criticize skeptics, and tests that fall far short accepted scientific protocols in defense of psi.

Anyone who claims as fact - like Wu does - that skeptics worship science as their god has no understanding of skepticism or science, and thus little solid ground from which to be criticizing. If I remember correctly, from the first time I went through Wu's "debunking," every argument he made (and I mean every) had at least one gaping logical hole in it. Everything from boring old strawmen (like the claim in the first sentence of this post) to brand-new (at the time) No True Scotsmen.
You can't argue against a position which relies on logic and evidence when you don't have evidence and your logic is absent. Winston Wu demonstrates this, very well. |
