The phone rings again and...
If there is one singular best method to guarantee that I'll hang up the phone when your company calls me it is this: Have a recorded voice on a machine call me and start out by saying, "Please don't hang up..."
If you want to prove in advance that what you're about to say is not the least bit important to me, have a machine call me and have that recorded voice say, "Please hold for an important message..."
If you want to be absolutely certain that I won't contribute to your charity, a charity that I've never donated to before, just call me and say, "We appreciate your donation last year to our organization and would like to know..."
If you want to know for sure that I'll be riled up and impatient when I finally get to talk to you on the phone, make me wait 20 minutes on hold listening to music, and occasionally interrupt the music with a recording saying, "We appreciate your patience."
Okay, got that off my chest. Thanks.

Are you in the Do Not Call Registry?
Doesn't work against those pesky charities, but it definitely slows down the other nuisances.
Now, if only we could set up a similar registry for family members looking for a loan... |
