There are many ways to celebrate Thanksgiving, ranging from staid singing in houses of worship to indulging in a gluttonous eating and drinking binge to the detrement of health. But the most important aspect of the holiday is neither the meal nor the hymns, but that of bringing the family together, old joys remembered; old angers at least temporarly forgotten.

At some times, in some places, the true meaning of the day is only paid lip-service for photo ops. These small people with shrunken hearts and shrivvled souls have bastardized the celebration to the point of removing all meaning. But at least, on this day I cannot hate them for what they are, only for what they have done.

So, I wish you the all of the best, my skeptical family, home and abroad, in agreement and dissent, and ask that you join me in hoping that there will never be another Thanksgiving celebration like this one.

Ah, likewise, my dear F; your rhetoric by far supercedes mine. Best of the best to you and your family - if not in luxury and material things, at least in peace of heart and love.

Alas, we have no such celebration of our own (though we do have our fair share of holidays).

Well, while I agree with Filthy's sentiments, mostly, I have to say that any holiday that features great food is a holiday for me...

Happy Thanksgiving!

Not to rain on anyone's holiday parade, but let us take a moment to actually reflect upon this particular holiday.

While this holiday isn't actually a celebration of our genocide against the native American people, we should still take a moment to think about the events of the next two centuries that followed the first thanksgiving.

Indeed. And, as in the Civil War, I lost long ago family on both sides of that obscenity.

But I cannot change history, only try in some small way, to prevent the repeating of it. So, as a family that is pretty much all secular, we celebrate the get-together and renewing of family bonds as much as anything, and make a bigger deal out of it than Christmas.

We ate early and everyone will be pleased to know that my Cold Mystery Meat Platter went over like Dick Cheney's current poll numbers. Everybody was afraid of it, possibly remembering the time that I made mountain oysters. It was entirely beef tongue, boiled and seasoned, pickled, and also smoked. but unlike Dick Cheney's current poll numbers (19 percent approval ) it eventually all got eaten, demonstrating a much higher approval rating.

And nobody got shot!

I didn't even get invited to my family gathering for Thanksgiving. Hope all you others had happy ones.
