An article about what a Bob Jones University text has to say about physica and religion. Basically, it's one or the other, not both:

quote:
ome people have developed the idea that higher mathematics and science have little to do with the Bible or Christian life. They think that because physics deals with scientific facts, or because it is not pervaded with evolutionary ideas, there is no need to study it from a Christian perspective. This kind of thinking ignores a number of important facts to the Christian: First, all secular science is pervaded by mechanistic, naturalistic and evolutionistic philosophy. Learning that the laws of mechanics as they pertain to a baseball in flight are just the natural consequences of the way matter came together denies the wisdom and power of our Creator God. ... Second, physics as taught in the schools of the world contradicts the processes that shaped the world we see today. Trying to believe both secular physics and the Bible leaves you in a state of confusion that will weaken your faith in God's Word.

Nice eh? Just what we need in this political climate! Still, it's nice to know what their ultimate goals are.

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Another example of this guy's lunacy here.

So the correct answer to any test question at BJ University is "God did it".

That's sad and scary. No wonder we are seeing more articles on America losing its edge in the sciences. Slowly plummeting down whatever scale is being used for comparison.

Oh yeah, real nice. Sounds like they'd prefer we'd all be dressing Amish-like, having witch hunts, and participating in nationally-televised exorcisms. What a bunch of wack jobs.

Reminds me of this article.

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

I know... we do have umbandist theology courses as well. But at least the one I'm in teaches proper physics.

They left out "supercalafragalistic".

So, Bigbrain -- are there or are there not satellites in orbit?
Oops,.... wrong forum.

So, Bob Jones -- is the Earth a globe or not?

I think that Christians should go all the way. Abolish science altogether, make every effort, programme and project faith-based. Anything that is based on scientific knowledge mustn't be used, and instead they need to trust God to fix things for them. Let's see what works best, silly religion or real science.

Televised exorcisms? They would have to use all kinds of technology! Evil, secular technology.

It's not evil if you use it to make money for Jesus.
