Tonight on the History channel at 8 (Eastern), there will be a show, "The Man Who Predicted 9/11." They didn't have to much in the commercial, but apparently he saved some lives but died in the building. If he did predict it, he wasn't very wise...

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

It didn't quite turn out as it sounded. The man was the head of security for the Twin Towers (or he may have been that for a business whose offices were located in the Twin Towers, not sure), who was very strict. After the bombing in '93, he wanted to make sure the building was secure. Since they covered the ground entrance, he hypothesized that there could be an attack from the air.

On the day of the attack, he continuously went into the building, got people out, then went in again.

That commercial sure was deceptive, although I got to say it worked.

No, it was just admiring the guy who recognized the risk rather than predicted the risk. It was a good show though. It reminded me that 10s of thousands got out rather than that ~3,000 didn't.
