 This is bugging me, what does pol mean here?

News headline that I cannot figure out what they mean by "Pol assails White House..." It isn't repeated in the article and nothing I can find on Google fits. Does anyone know what Pol refers to here?

Indeed. I think that dumb abbreviation was probably originally invented by a headline composer at a newspaper.

Semi-apropos: I recall my father telling me the old (Ogden Nash?) ditty, in which a wastrel son at college sends a telegram home, asking for more money. (The historical context is, the telegram company charged the sender on a per-word basis.)

The collegian sent:

NO MON
NO FUN
YOUR SON

The reply:

TOO BAD
SO SAD
YOUR DAD

That's exactly why I don't read or listen to the regular news anymore. It's like trying to understand a forigen language that you never heard before.
Do they really want people to be Informed?
