In "The Monkey Suit," Ned Flanders (because he's a religious nutcase) and Reverend Lovejoy (because his wife persuades him the issue will boost flagging church attendance) join forces to bully Springfield Elementary into teaching Creationism as an "alternative theory" to evolution.

Marge: "What's wrong, Sweetie?"

Lisa: "They're making us learn Creation theory in school. Today we had a test, and every answer was "God did it."

(Sound familiar?)

Lisa later points out at a town meeting that evolution and Creationism are incompatible. So evolution is thrown out of the curriculum.

So Lisa organizes an underground evolution class, and is arrested for "teaching non-Biblical science." On the first day, Lisa's trial goes badly for her. But that evening, Marge reads The Origin of Species. ("Wow! Darwin's argument is incredibly persuasive.") She comes up with a winning idea to use in the trial's second day. (No spoiler here.)

This from Fox, which always knows to keep its ideology safely confined to its Fair and Balanced "News" programs, and to remain relatively cutting edge in its money-maker, the entertainment branch.

As I understnad it, Fox never left the entertainment branch. There are just people who believe they are making news-programs.

In an episode from a few years ago as Superintendent Chammers hears Ned say a prayer over the school PA (since he became 'acting principal') he says: *What's that, a prayer? A prayer! God has no place within these (school) walls. Just like facts have no place within organized religion.*
I might be a bit off in the wording but you get the idea. So, as a Simpsons fan you know, this 'Lisa vs. Creationism' show is not such an outlandish thing to expect from the writers.

I don't exactly understand your statement.
'making news-programs'?
A broadcast station has all kinds of programs, don't they?
The Simpsons are just one of many that Channel 11 has. And most stations have news programs, the evening news, etc. LOL, if you can call what we see on TV any kind of real news.
I mean, Really! Does anyone care if Brad Pit has a baby?

Well, yes, because that would be very interesting news.

If his wife had a baby it would be unremarkable.

Not surprising. If you check out the CVs of the writters, they have some impressive academic credentials in sciences and engineering.

For those who want the spoiler:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Monkey_Suit

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

But, she's so damn ugly the baby probably looks like a monkey, so actually THAT would be news.
