The two asteroids named 106537 McCarthy & 106545 Colanduno has their names as a tribute to our friends, Swoopy and Derek of the Skepticality Podcast.

They are on official NASA pages and there's a wikipedia note on it too.

Cool, huh?

That's freaking awesome! Good for them.

Wonderful, so long as neither asteroid becomes a "killer." That would make the naming a lot less of an honor. These aren't earth-orbit-crossing 'stoids, are they?

Thank you, Dr. Mabuse! Clearly from that Java graphic, at least Colanduno is in a "safe" and honorable orbit.

Siberia wished: "Now, time to get ourselves an asteroid..."

Don't be so quick to ask for one, my dear. I've had asteroids, and they are most unpleasant.

Hey Mooner, did you name them?

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

Did you see an astronaut to get rid of them, or did they go away on their own?

I didn't name them with any words I'd want to repeat within these hallowed halls.

For a long time, I neglected them and just sat on the problem. Eventually, I went to a specialist and had them asselerated to an orbit near Uranus.
