I saw an excellent discussion of the current Israeli-Lebanon conflict on CSPAN this morning. The CSPAN link to it doesn't work but perhaps in a day or so it will be available to watch. It was sponsored by The Nixon Center which despite its name, source watch says is non-partisan. From the program I would agree.

quote:
Hezbollah: The Syrian and Iranian Connection
On Tuesday, August 8, 2006, The Nixon Center hosted an event played live on CSPAN that examined the Syrian and Iranian connection to the current Israeli crisis with Hezbollah. Speaking at the event were Michael Herzog, Brigadier General in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and visiting military fellow at The Washington Institute; Theodore Kattouf, President of AMIDEAST and former U.S. Ambassador to Syria; and Karim Sadjadpour of the International Crisis Group in Washington, with Geoffrey Kemp moderating. A summary of the event can be found here and also on The Washington Realist blog. Video of the even can be found via CSPAN, here.

There are a couple links embedded in the blurb at the website.

Program Brief

It also looks like there are some additional sponsored analyses from the center.

The speakers/panels were policy analysts and appeared very knowledgeable in their fields from their credentials and from what they had to say. If only our own government was looking to better sources for decision making information.

The link to the CSPAN program is now up. You can hear the 1.5 hour program online if you are interested. Well worth the time just to have a broader understanding of all the outsiders continually mentioned as main players by the news media.

Hmmm...it was now it isn't. I'll keep trying.

ON this page also but Firefox won't open it.

"Nixon Center Discussion on Hezbollah
Michael Herzog, Brigadier General in the Israel Defense Forces, participates in a panel discussion on Hezbollah. The Nixon Center event examines the relationship between Hezbollah, Iran and Syria. The panelists consider the part Iran and Syria may play in arriving at a cease fire in the Israel-Lebanon conflict.

Try here.
