What a bunch of wackos. Funny....are the 'stage hands' immune from
the Hinn pixy dust effects?

A Psy student could write a dissertation on crowd manipulation and fanaticism with this one.
What will Hinn's circus act evolve into next -- shaking them upside down on
stage for loose change? Whatever it is, they'll follow like sheep.

That was a seriously disturbing video. Mass hysteria and willful credulity providing fertile grounds for Hinn's manipulative style. Aren't there Christians who see this stuff as kind of, well, satanic?

YO! Looking at this absurd video of who I'd call Benny Hill, not Benny Hinn, I'm reminded of a fairly old film called, "Marjo."
It starred Margo Gortner, who plays one of the Elmer Gantry hands-on...let-me-fix-your-malady-if-you-give-me-some-money preachers.

At the time I saw that film, I was writing and delivering movie reviews on television. (More years ago than I care to count.)
I think I remember myself accurately when I say now that "Marjo"
made me think of sexually repressed folks sort of getting their ashes hauled, so to speak, when the preacher laid hands on them.
Maybe we could call such an event a Jesugasm. (Jesu as pronounced in Latin, of course. YEAH-zoo)

Their bodies seem to show some kind of a mini-seizure not unlike what occurs when, you know, what people do when it's climax time?

I don't think what's happening to them isn't real, but how it's induced, to me, is very questionable. And I think doing it the more popular way probably feels a lot better, although I've never had anyone do it for me by just laying their hands on me above the waist. So I can't make the comparison.

UUHH, OOOOH and OY! I hope I haven't given out too much information here. Please forgive me. I just couldn't resist. Maybe I should've posted this in the Humor File. The appropriate retort to this is, probably: no OY, you just shouldn't've posted anything at all, eh?

Scary. Makes me want to go to one (if I could stand large crowds). I wonder what would happen when I didn't hit the floor at his touch or wave..... To filled with the devil?

My take (having known a Hinn fanatic):

Too many people with something missing in their life looking for something to ground them and make them feel like they belong. To belong, they need to fit in. They can't not fall if they are expected to fall. I am sure some of them actually fall and convulse in some kind of induced hysteria. I have seen too much to doubt that, but have seen enough to know there are folks who aren't feeling it "feel it".

Very disturbing that he can command that large of an audience with his pagentry and symbolism to do such crazy things.

Peace
Joe

Oh, I imagine if a skeptic went, the spotters would identify them quickly and make sure Hinn never tried anything with them...

While Marjoe Gortner played himself as the older Marjoe, in the documentary of the same name, he really was a child evangelist. The movie was his way of exposing the fraud that tent style evangelism was really is.

Anyhow, I plan to see Benny Hinn live and doing his thing at the first chance I get.

I had a friend once who had different names for styles of evangelists. Hinn would be designated a “thumper” on that list.

Huh. I've never heard of that film before. It looks extremely interesting. Wiki says it won an Oscar for Best Documentary. I'd love to see it. Anyone have any idea if it's worth purchasing? Amazon only seems to sell it bundled with another documentary named Thoth about a street performer.

Good to know. But my question was whether it was worth buying in order to see it, which might be the only way to get my hands on a copy. I doubt it's the sort of film my local Hollywood Video keeps on the shelves. It's over three decades old and a documentary to boot.

Anyone use Netflix? How good is their service? It is possible to rent older and more obscure flicks through them?
