Because they veiw transfusions as against the edicts in the Bible. This is merely the interpretational extreme that they have gone to.

Assuming the best, that they did not want to see their children dead, I have to admit that their devotion to their faith is astounding. Likewise with their stupidity.

JWs cannot accept any blood or blood products as part of their belief. This isn't the first or last case of it affecting the life of their children.
