ljbrs - Caity is my daughter and only 11 years old. I don't think she would understand why someone would be mean to her - especially when she's only interested in talking about astronomy. Some folks can be just plain mean and don't care if it's a child. I will let them know in no uncertain terms that attacking an 11 year old child is completely unacceptable and they really don't want to wake the draconic instincts in me when she's threatened. I will flame and attack when someone sets out deliberately to attack her.

The thing I've been seeing in the early am appears brighter than Mars, however, I've seen it for the past two weeks or so.

That does sound like Venus, since it has reappeared every morning. Have you ever looked at http://heavens-above.com? Enter your latitude and longitude and it will give you a skymap for your location/time, what planets are up, what satellites you can see, etc. I check it every clear night for satellites. Fun!

I work nights and am outside quite a bit. I didn't think Venus got that high in the sky tho. If I could remember how to locate the thing RA and Dec I would tell you. Thanks for the link BA.

I'm back! I was on a very overdue vacation and have missed about two weeks worth of stuff, so I'm very behind (or I have a big behind, from eating all the wrong things while vacationing??).

What's the latest and greatest here and on the BABB? I am very lost as to the current topics. It doesn't look like the morons have come out of the woodwork yet for the Apollo and Viking anniversaries today.

Rubysue, it's been a little ugly over there. So much in fact, that I've quit posting for a bit. There's been personal attacks right and left. I'm hoping this current crop gets bored and moves on.

I think that I could have handled nastiness at anytime during my life. One needs to learn that in life there are people and people. Some of these people have emotional problems, and whatever they say or write must be taken as having come from the brain of an unfortunate person. If children can learn how to deal with nastiness early enough in life, they can learn to handle anything. If Cathy has two ears, one should be used for incoming nastiness and the other for outgoing nastiness. Sure, it is hard, but learning to *consider the source* helps.

Former President Clinton once said that he handled problems by *putting them in a little box to consider later*! He then went on to demonstrate with forceful gestures using his index finger and thumb to show how he put them into that little box. Since President Clinton had a whole slew of problems (with the press, Congress, females, etc.) he certainly knew how to deal with them!

I feel sorry for the poor souls who go through their early life without any problems to face. If they come upon problems later in life, those problems can demolish them psychologically.

Incidentally, when it comes to *little boxes* into which one stores one's problems, I think that President Clinton probably was a master of that and that he had Fort Knox or some other place of equal size where he would store his *little boxes*!

Zandermann, you posted on the BA Board "powers of ten". I went to show it to Megan this evening, and I guess it's disappeared off the bottom of the board. Could you please post the link here when you get a chance? 'Preciate it.

I'm getting damned tired of apologizing for that software. I just wish I could accelerate my search for a new host that will support my bandwidth, filesize, and need for specific server support like PHP. There are just too many places out there, and it's hard to look for a good one. Does anyone here know of a good place to look that lists and critiques hosting services, with prices?

Trish, I am not griping about your post, don't get me wrong. I really dislike having to delete posts; I'd rather have a board like this where I can keep old posts.

Ummm, the name is Lisa: L-I-S-A.
Not complaining about your software, really. I just wanted Zandermann to repost the powers of ten thing over here. Megan is on Juno, and gets kicked off about every two minutes, so she doesn't get to spend as much time on the boards as she'd like. She missed a cool post, that's all.
We have a solution to that too. Shadowman is going to set her up an AOL screen name under our account, and then go and load 6.0 on her computer. This won't be any problem, since her parents are on vacation.
New project: figuring out how to use the Heaven's Above page. I was going to test it out tonight by trying to observe a flare at 23:09. At 2250 a huge supercell moved into the area. Murphy's Law is alive and well and in South Dakota.

thanks, Piltdown...glad to see that you bookmarked it...I was wondering if anyone else thought it was a 'savable' page.

Lisa, what sort of probs are you having with "heavens above"? I had a string of difficulties when I first started using it, so I might be able to help troubleshoot. But the site is just *packed* with information for us amateur stargazers.

No huge insurmountable problems. Last night was the first time I'd ever really tinkered with it, even though I've had it bookmarked for a long time. The first time I went there, I didn't need a password, so there was some trauma right off the bat. I just need to acquire, and the use some time to explore the site. Thanks.
Piltdown, thanks for the link. Usually I bookmark cool sites, just fell down on the job this time.
