YO:

Since I fell asleep during Senator McSame's speech, please let me know if he said anything about his terrible yet courageous ordeal in North Vietnam. He seldom talks about it. I'd like to know more. My favorite uncle in WWII had awful experiences in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. He wouldn't ever talk about his. He just gritted his teeth and screamed in his sleep.

P.S. One note of caution. I noticed online this evening that Mrs. Palin did her first semester or so of college in Hawaii. So just a word of warning: She may have connived with some dark-skinned community organizer there who was radicalizing that undeveloped enclave lurking in the middle of the 3rd World Pacific.

I'm Orwellingly Yurz, your friendly community organizer. OY!

As he hadn't actually said anything by about 10:45, I gave up on it and went to bed. It was no more than I expected, really. Convention speechs are, by & large, just preach-to-the-choir, feel-good & get 'em shouting, crap. Might's well go to a Baptist tent revival.

Oh, wait, there was one thing that made me take notice: some protestors had managed to get into the hall and for an instant one was on camera, 'way in the back. He was holding quite a large sign that said something I couldn't make out entirely but had to do with McCain & Bush. I was questioning my recollection of it, but then read of it this morning.

Thus far, the reviews of the speech haven't been good. Evidently, he did the POW thing farther into exhaustion and said not word one concerning the economy. At the moment, I think it might have done him more harm overall than anything else.

Now it's time to enjoy the spin, 'cause it's gonna get some.

Code Pink, you say....

Drat! Why do I always miss out on the good stuff?

Anyhow, from what I've seen thus far, the invading protestors would have made a lot better story than McCain's speech. But I'll wager we won't see anything about it on the national media.

This footage of the police in riot gear last night in Minneapolis is really amazing. I'm hard pressed to see all that much difference between this stuff and the horrible oppressive government behavior everyone was expressing such shock at in Beijing during the Olympics.

Funny isn't it. With the Democratic convention you had well over 80,000 people and I don't recall seeing one protester. The Republican convention had 20,000 and I saw at least 4 protesters physically removed.....plus cops in riot gear.

I was watching Vandy vs South Carolina on ESPN, does that make me a bad person?

I did watch the Palin speech, so I figures I didn't need to watch McCain.

I realize Oy was just being sarcastic...

But Jonny Mac went on about his POW time for over five minutes in his speech. Seriously.

The crowd was eating it up too.... sad dimwitted fucks. It is one thing to realize and respect such an ordeal, but it is equally valid to ask why a prison camp is meaningfull on a resume for the presidency.

Apparently it was a rude awakening for little Jonny Cocky, made him realize he wasn't invulnerable. Added a bit of maturity and strength of character that he was obviously lacking before.

To which I say: Good for him, but so what?

There are literally thousands of paths, equally valid, to that kind of personal insight. Admitedly most are less traumatic, but no less valid.

If he keeps playing this POW angle it is going to backfire. Being a POW grants you respect, and if he keeps abusing that to deflect other political criticism he is going to start losing it.

Hell, Obama should be all over that. Bust his fucking chops for using his POW days as a defense for not knowing how many houses he owns, and every time he uses it to deflect criticism of a non-related policy. Throw it back in his face every time.
