Thanks for that. So what I get is, chiropractors can twist your neck causing a stroke, but are as unlikely to break your back as to help it much. Wonderful "healing profession."

Actually what Homola (a chiropractor himself) is saying is that while Chiropractors have discovered some efficacious treatments concerning the neuromusculoskeletal system, the classical basis for chiropractic is bullshit and neck manipulations are worthless at best. There are other chiropractors speaking out as well, and that's good to see.

Wouldn't it be nice if someone were to set up a guidance and scholarship program designed specifically for qualified chiropractors who are considering to abandoning their sham profession, so they could attend medical or nursing schools, and become real health care professionals?

Not just for chiroquackers, I've heard that osteopaths have to go through so much that they are almost fully qualified MDs. Can anyone confirm or deny?

I was sent to an osteopath when I dislocated the sacral iliac joint. They are bone crackers without all the humbug. They are D.O.'s, which is to say their studies are primarily focused on the mucleoskeletal system. Whatever he did fixed my si joint. As he continued to tell me in the five visits he said I'd need, keep up with the physical therapy, I'm just here to see the bones stay where they are supposed to be throughout. As to just how much school, his focus was not on the biology just the physiology.

In the introduction to "Dubious Aspects of Osteopathy," Dr. Stephen Barrett says,
Osteopathic physicians (DOs) are the legal equivalents and, in most cases, are the professional equivalents of medical doctors. Although most DOs offer competent care, the percentage involved in dubious practices appears to be higher than that of medical doctors. For this reason, before deciding whether to use the services of a DO it is useful to understand osteopathy's history and the practical significance of its philosophy.

There's a clear distinction between Osteopathy, which is alternative medicine, and an Osteopathic Doctor, who has been to medical school.
Personally although there's no evidence for the holistic benefits of bone cracking, Chiropractic techniques helped my lower back problems, which were due to low mobility, by stretching these areas until the cracked, my back loosened up and is much better today. After years of seeing physios, this was by far the best therapy for my specific problem.
