To be pertinent, it would have to be research which examines the question of whether kids "do better" (let's ignore how to define that for now) with married same-sex parents or with unmarried same-sex parents.
Because another thing that people like Bill conveniently ignore (besides their very own Bible) is that there are already plenty of family units raising children where the "parents" are the same sex. The fact that they can't legally get married in most states is irrelevant to the fact that they have already "come together in union" as if they were married, and they are raising children as families.
Bill, I'm sure, would much prefer that a ban on same-sex marriage also somehow magically be a ban on same-sex families, but that won't happen anytime soon. People are going to act like families even if the government says that they're not legally recognized as such. Heather Has Two Mommies was written over 20 years ago, long before the "Defense of Marriage Act" was even a twinkle in the Right-wing's eye.
What same-sex families are asking for are the same legal options as hetero couples get. For that simple and reasonable request, Bill and his Koran- and Bible-thumping (but ignoring) buddies shit all over them. "Not in the best interest of society" my fat ass. |

What do you mean by sufficient? How much would have to be done? If there were differences, should anything in particular be done about it?

This is certainly an interesting question, but it would have to be controlled against the fact that there are myriad examples every day of traditional M-F parents producing, well, children who have not (or are not) turned out so well.
