Sometimes while reading news of the Central Cordilleras, I feel like Mark Twain, observing events in the Wild West. (I sure wish I could write like Twain!)

From the Upnorth Tribune:

CAMP DANGWA, LA TRINIDAD,Benguet —Kalinga police has already filed charges against the gun men who killed a 75 year old veteran broadcaster from Tabuk City last July 3, 2010 inside his house while feeding his dog, the police said.
At least it was thoughtful of the gunmen to feed the old guy's dog while they were taking care of business.

From the Baguio Chronicle:
Benguet Town Growing Hemp Anew

La Trinidad, Benguet – Kapangan town in Benguet, declared drug-free last year, is reportedly growing cannabis anew.

Authorities were reportedly forced to strip off the town’s “drug free tag” and began swooping down on re-emerging vast marijuana plantations in the remote hinterland enclave last week.

Such re-emergence, said PDEA-Cordillera spokesperson Emely Cayandag Fama, has been validated and was a disappointing development for the anti-narcotics agency.
In other news, the US State of Nebraska qualifies for a “corn free tag” every year, just after harvest.

From The Northern Philippine Times:
Former Kalinga town vice mayor shot dead

TABUK CITY, Kalinga– A former Kalinga town vice mayor was shot dead here Wednesday evening but police ruled out politics saying he was accidentally killed for trying to mediate a verbal shouting match between two hot heads.

Chief Insp. Bobby Glen Ganipac Tabuk police head said former Tanudan town vice mayor Gilbert Anganay was trying pacify his drinking buddies Santos Wacnang and another village mate inside a karaoke bar in this city when the incident happened.

Wacnang reportedly pulled off his Cal.45 pistol and aimed at his foe but the former vice mayor went in between.

A shot was fired and Anganay was hit on his chest.

He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead before arrival while Wacnang was arrested and thrown in jail.

He will be facing to face homicide charges even as police said there won’t be any tribal war as a result of the incident because all those involved are grom [sic] the same tribe in Tanudan.
Whew! It's great that they kept the killing within the tribe.

Biology is just physics that has begun to smell bad.” —HalfMooner
