Sure, I think so, but it's not necessary to convince me.

We don't treat everyone equally -- we segregate men and women in the military, which, as far as I can tell, is essentially so that people aren't uncomfortable because people who are sexually attracted to them see them and to discourage sex in the barracks. Maybe this is wrong, but if it is acceptable, I'm not sure why the logic wouldn't apply to homosexuals in barracks with members of the same gender.

This would suggest either desegregation of men and women or ostracizing homosexuals (which is more undesirable than DADT I would think) -- and really has no bearing on DADT without some more argument. Maybe there's a middle road of relaxing those considerations -- telling anyone who doesn't like it to grow up would probably be a good start.

"Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," are just words without some argument.

But there is evidence to suggest that DADT is harmful to our military preparedness. At the outset of the invasion of Iraq we had a very small number of Arab linguists, and most of them were gay and then discharged under DADT. That is not OK.

I imagine people have a pros list for DADT as well. It's necessarily hypothetical, but good luck convincing folks their conservative religious morality is wrong.

Actually, it's because of a long standing societal belief that it is improper for unmarried men and women to share quarters. Everyone knows they are going to be screwing like rabbits, they just aren't allowed to live together.

"Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," are just words without some argument.

Well, it's a good thing I used them in the context of an argument then, isn't it?
