If he wasn't on page one he quickly became one when people started asking difficult question and pointing out the obvious inconsistencies in his ability to reason and in his story. |

To one, and all......
I have truly enjoyed my three years and seven months on SFN. Reams of material to sort through, and some fond memories of a lot of clever guys and gals. I want to thank Kil for being an all around adult, and Hal for an expression of wisdom which IMO is all too scarce around here. I will really miss Filthy and Mooner and Cune for their wise moderation in all things. Including abstention, a discipline I never will learn.
I have learned a great deal about a great many areas of the human odyssey here, and I thank everyone without exception for contributing to that learning experience. Humbert, Dr. Mabuse and Dude have expressed doubt that I have actually understood much about the nature and essence of skepticism. This is not true.
Actually, I have greatly expanded my comprehension of certain subsets of the overall subject of Skepticism. The current focus on Critical Thinking, for example, despite a long history, is in high vogue at this point in history. I certainly feel strongly updated compared to the subject I studied en academia years ago. From Dewey, just past the turn of the century, thru the Frankfurt School, on to Mezirow and Brookfield in the late 20th century - the concepts have been refined and broadened. And some very useful tools developed.
But in the global schema of human cognition, CT in all its glory is still parochial. My difficulty of useful learning curve has become asymptotic.
In addition, the current climate here in SFN is uncomfortable for me right now; it violates some of my basic ethics. So, for that reason, and to forestall the inevitable, I am going to take an indefinite sabbatical from posting here. There is quite enough heavy-handedness going on in the mideast, in our own US Government, and in the microcosm that is SFN, for me to give reason to add to the carnage.
Goodbye all, and perhaps we will hear each other again. To paraphrase the ancient Persians; This Too shall Change (and I can only hope for the better) |
