I just got this notification from President Obama's facebook page:

Michelle and I extend our deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives because of the tornadoes that have swept through Alabama and the southeastern U.S. Our hearts go out to all those who have been affected by this devastation, and we commend the heroic efforts of those who have been working tirelessly to respond to this disaster.

Interesting, for the first time in a long time, at least as far as I can recall, there is no reference to praying. Good sign.

I am willing to bet that Obama is a closet atheist.

Maybe. But with gas sitting at $4.43 and the oil companies announcing yet more record profits, with all the tax cuts for the rich being extended, with all the drone attacks in Pakistan, with the war effort in Afghanistan being ramped up, with a new war front being opened up in Libya, with the extension of the Patriot Act, with the national debt going from 10 to 14 trillion in 2 years time, with black unemployment now sitting at depression type levels, with his approval ratings in the toilet etc... etc... etc... I'd say him being George W. Bush reincarnated would be the much safer bet. I think Obama even channeled GWB and his famous "no magic wand" statement when Obama announced he ain't got no "magic bullet" to bring down gas prices overnight. These guys are so much alike it is scary.

On gas prices, every analysis I've heard is that Obama really doesn't have much ability to control gas prices. That's more of a commodity/opec/oil company and wall street thing. One reason the Republicans are talking about and blaming him it is they now he can't do anything.

Congress is to blame for gas prices. There is this law they passed, Commodity Futures Modernization Act, put through by a republican congress and signed into law by Clinton. While it was a republican congress, this bill has deep support from both parties. Only a very small number of our legislators voted no.

The bill allows oil to be traded as a commodity, which is complete and total bullshit, and anyone with two brain cells functioning can see why.

I should also note that this type of trading doesn't increase oil company profits as much as it increases speculative banking profits. Hedge fund managers (the top 25 of whom all made at least a half billion in personal income in 2009) and speculative investment banking are the ones making a killing off the oil, and they own most of our politicians. Just wait till they start dumping money in unlimited quantities into the 2012 presidential campaign. Thats going to be fun to watch.

I have been disappointed with some of Obama's policies but he has never been as bad as George W. He is certainly not trying to give his rich buddies tax breaks. He is also not trying to do away with social security or medicare under the guise of privatizing both.
And dropping some bombs in Libya is not even on the same level as sending lots of troops to Afghanistan and Iraq. George W has set our country so far back.

The following link has a good chart showing what policies have contributed to the deficit

Answer his question Bill. Unless it was your intention (more than likely) to drag this off-topic.

Rather than speculating that Obama is an atheist I was speculating that he is a reincarnation of GWB. It's just a different point of view, you see.

Yep. Samething happened to Bush. And the dems blamed him all day long knowing it was out of his control. Funny how quickly the roles reverse.

You want me to answer the question again? OK, in response to speculation that Obama was an atheist I simply but forth my speculation that he was GWB reincarnated. Somebody could have speculated that he was a Voodoo Witch Doctor instead and my speculation would have remained the same.

Maybe. But if he's GWB reincarnated then he isn't an atheist.

Thanks for sharing, yes indeed that is a good sign. I've been wanting to see this omission for a while. Hopefully there's more to come.
