Not schizophrenic?

In that case I suppose substance abuse makes sense, given how incoherent some of his rantings were. Those aren't typical symptoms of bi-polar, are they? (What do I know... I'm just a layman)

"Dave Mabus" Diagnosed and In Treatment

...This diagnosis of bipolar disorder does seem consistent with the behavior we’ve observed over the history of the case. Some in the skeptic community criticized the attempt to involve the police last month, pointing out that most forms of mental illness do not correlate with actual violence. However now that we know substance abuse is involved, it is worth noting this Oxford study which supports our decision to treat the threats as serious.

In any case, it is good that skeptic efforts have resulted in “Mabus” getting professional help, and we hope that his treatment plan is a successful one.

Uh oh. Scroll to the bottom of the thread.

What I read on facebook is that Dennis was released. He has a court date in January, but in the meantime, his release was on condition that he not use the internet. This news is coming to you, third hand. I can't vouch for its reliability.

Found this reply from Tim Farley in the Markuze Case Study post on his Skeptools blog, dated December 11, 2011:

The update I got from one Montreal Gazette reporter is that Mabus has been given “conditional release” and is due back in court on January 25. I’m a bit annoyed that neither the police nor the crown prosecutor thought it worthwhile to notify the victims of this.

I’m going to try to follow up on this with the prosecutor on Monday to verify.

This is mostly remarkably good news! Finally, we have at least some traction with authorities in getting Dennis Markuze under some kind of control, incarceration, or much-needed treatment. Keeping my fingers crossed.
