...maybe only to me, but... I was watching an old Wide World of Sports segment on the Race Across America coast-to-coast bike race. I knew that there was a Michael Shermer in this race, but when his mug came up, though he was considerably shaggier back in '82, he def. looked like the Michael Shermer we all know and love. So I checked Wiki, and lo and behold, I was correct. Hmmph, who'd a thunk it?

Of course, if it's on Wikipedia, it's got to be true.

"What the hell is an Aluminum Falcon?"

"Oh, I'm sorry. I thought my Dark Lord of the Sith could protect a small thermal exhaust port that's only 2-meters wide! That thing wasn't even fully paid off yet! You have any idea what this is going to do to my credit?!?!"

"What? Oh, oh, 'just rebuild it'? Oh, real [bleep]ing original. And who's gonna give me a loan, jackhole? You? You got an ATM on that torso LiteBrite?"

Yep, that's what the wiki article said...

Good enough for me

If your suggesting it's not true your wrong but I like your skepticism. I heard him talk about both.

He said when he was in high school a Bible thumping friend got him to be born again, alleluia! He sp ent sometime fully entrenched and very much involved in the activities of debating atheists on the theists side. Oh yeah! I would be skeptical too, if I didn't hear it from himself.

At the same time he commented on him carrier as as a competing long distance cyclist. He said at times during an even he would hallucinate from lack of sleep and fatigue. Like during the event you saw, Fripp.

I got the message what whatever this guy does he goes full bore. SS

There are only two types of religious people, the deceivers and the deceived. SS

He talks about his biking in many of his books and interviews. Apparently some of his extreme Xcountry biking exhaustion hallucinations helped move him towards where he is now.

I'm just being light-hearted about wiki's accuracy. 99% of the time, whatever I look up on wiki isn't important enough for me to check its veracity, it merely satisfies a fleeting curiosity... And 99% of the time, I'm sure that Wiki is completely accurate.

Just didn't want to assume that Shermer's Wiki entry was accurate. Frankly, this isn't important enough to me. I just didn't know that the two Michael Shermers were one and the same. I never knew that Shermer was a hard-core cyclist (nor am I, I'm a fan of extreme endurance tests).

When I went to BUD/S Hell Week, by Day Three, I was hallucinating worse than any acid trip. Houses in the middle of the ocean, animated graffiti on everyone's heads and faces, a kaleidoscope where someone head should be, walls popping up in the middle of barren, treeless landscape.
