Thanks, ss! That was a very perplexing problem. Intuitively, it looked impossible, but intuition was giving me a bum steer. I wracked by brain over it for some time, until finally seeing how the long diagonals were not quite straight, and were different from one another. That was a clever puzzle.

It's a pretty well known puzzle, you should have just googled the solution

You know people, there maybe something else going on. That bulge could be it or something else is going on.

How about taking out that small bulge on the bottom image and the dip on the top. Make it a straight edge so that the hypotenuse doesn't have that bulge or dip.

Oh oh! Now what?

if you take out the dip and the bulge and use straight lines you end up with different shaped component pieces exposing the illusion. Or if you try to preserve the shape of one piece that makes up the hypotenuse, you alter the shape of the other piece, and the main triangle, once again exposing the illusion.

Then then yellow and green pieces would be longer along the X axis, and the red piece shorter, so they wouldn't stack up nicely when re-arranged to the lower diagram's positions.

Or, the yellow and green pieces would be taller, and the aqua triangle shorter, so that they wouldn't line up, either.

Nice way of analyzing it.
