The typhoon that hit the Philippines is the current action focus.

Edit Hoo boy:

Its not just that this Haiyan is so powerful that it might push the boundary of a heretofore unseen category 6 to 7 storm, its so huge that if the eye were hitting Charleston, South Carolina, hurricane force winds and storm surge would stretch from Miami to NYC. If you dont believe me, heres another hypothetical shot.

Mind you, being over land would quickly diminish the storm's power so it wouldn't be as bad as portrayed here, but I think that we get the idea.

I have to wonder? How Halfmooner is doing over there?

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

He's been posting today on facebook. A few of his links have been about this typhoon.

Ed Brayton says about the link Ig dropped:
The Foundation Beyond Belief is launching a new Humanist Crisis Response for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan, which has been rated as the most powerful storm ever recorded by the US Navy's Joint Typhoon Warning Center. The power of this storm is mind-blowing, sustained winds of 195 mph and gusts up to 235 - with 10 million people in its path. The aftermath is absolutely devastating. After much research, FBB decided on the Citizens Disaster Response Center as the beneficiary. They're based in the Philippines and on the ground already. Any help you can give is obviously very badly needed. You can find a link to donate here. Every dollar will go to the CDRC. It isn't enough to be anti-religion; if we are serious about our humanist principles, we must put them into action and help others whenever possible.

My sister-in-law is heading over there as part of Crisis Response International, which provides help and evangelism. (While the residents can use the former, I'm not convinced of the latter.)

Hopefully, the will help and not delay help while they insist that people pray/accept Jesus(tm).

And here's something those people do not need.

Did you know that God is punishing the Philippines for their tolerance of homosexuality, prostitution, Catholicism, and other sins? The Philippines are about to feel Gods wrath in the powerful form of a cyclone so great that the world has never experienced one of this intensity. If those of you in the Philippines had repented, you would not need to be punished. But you tolerate prostitution, homosexuality, and adultery, and God will make an example of you, much like he has with Haiti.

No matter the disater someone will claim it is the wrath of God. How does anyone know. Every country is guilty of one of those "abominations" he says is being judged, so why is God picking on the philippines?

Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. (Eph 5:15-17)
