It is news guaranteed to make many Republicans squirm. Was Abraham Lincoln, founder of the party now seeking a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage in America, actually gay himself?
A new book, published next month, certainly thinks so. The Intimate World of Abraham Lincoln by C.A. Tripp produces evidence that one of America's greatest Presidents had a long-term relationship with a youthful friend, Joshua Speed, and shared his bed with David Derickson, captain of his bodyguards.
I expect this book to be greeted with snickering on the one hand and a furious silence on the other, for a while, at least. I'm looking forward to the Amazon.com reviews.

I would love to read this book. I'm sure if I do I will have to buy it. It will never come to my small Kentucky public library.
Like many, I have always admired Lincoln the man and the President. I had never before heard or read so much as a hint that he might have been a homosexual. Wouldn't that be great? What a kick in the head for all the homophobes!
I fear since the author is gay himself most people will blow this book off unread, assuming it is biased without doing the work to see if it really is. |

I recall hearing, a few years back, some talk that he might have been, but I put it down to just more Triple K paranoia.
It will be fun to see what the reaction will be. The Klan's gonna love it.
