Another question: do people keep the same name (or similar ones, e.g. Smith vs. Smith1) at other forums or websites? I have a small rotation of usernames, though, for instance, at TheForce.net I refuse to actually join until I can think of a suitable "Darth" name. And as Darth Cuneiformist doesn't have an cool-enough ring to it, I have yet to join.

Yes, I use TW101356 in public forums and have some other names I use for more restricted ones.

Darth Gilgamesh? Darth Ashurbanipal? (Or was he a Mede?)

Hmmmm...Darth Akkad has a nice harsh ring to it, yet is easy to both pronounce and spell.

| Hello!

So, you may ask: Why chose "Dr. Mabuse" as my handle?

There is a band called Propaganda who made a very cool song named Dr. Mabuse on the album A Secret Wish. At first I picked the tag from the song. Back then, I used it as a call-sign for on-line Mechwarrior 3 gaming. Later I started to use it on forums as well.

The song start with someone whispering "Mah-boo-seh"
 here is the following lyrics:
 Quote:

 quote:
 (Whispered:) Mah-boo-seh...

(spoken intro:) Why does it hurt when my heart misses the beat?

(spoken verse) The man without shadow promises you the world
Tell him your dreams and fanatical needs.
He's buying them all with cash.

(chorus) Sell him your soul - sell him your soul - sell him your soul
Never look back - never look back.
Sell him your soul - sell him your soul
 Never look back
Never look back - never look back
 Sell him your soul

(sung verse) He's devoted to the devil fascinated by crime
Glamorous death is his destination - eternal passion his gain.

I though that "Glamorous death is his destination" fit well when role-playing the character of a battle-mech pilot/warrior.

It wasn't until later I found out that the lyrics was actually about the movie-character Dr. Mabuse from films made by the German director Fritz Lang (also know for the classic sci-fi movie Metropolis). Dr. Mabuse was a psychiatrist, hence the line "Tell him your dreams and fanatical needs", and he used his knowledge in psychology to study criminals, and eventually became a criminal mastermind himself: the psychology giving him a special edge.

| Ever since I was a little girl I have always loved storms. Especially watching them roll in, the anticipation of it's arrival. I especially love a good thunderstorm. Living here in Florida for about half the year here it is a daily routine. |

| I used to be called RAYCRX once upon a time back in the 90's which was as close as I could come to Racer X who was, as many of you no doubt know, was Speed Racer's older brother. But I always had this weird atom, atom bomb fetish thing going and desided to think of a new name and suddenly hit on being @tomic which was more uncommon than just being Atomic and ironically causes me all kinds of problems when I try to apply it to anything else. I even decided to name my business @tomic Studio. In my signature I linked to my recently revived ancient homepage which was the first website I ever made back in 1995. It is called Where Dreams Go To Die. As you will see, it has atom bombs all over it!
That's about it for my superhero origin story.

The great thing about @tomic is that it so nicely fits the internet age, and it does so much better (and much more uniquely) than the e-whatever fad.

And I, too, loved Racer X. He was clearly better than his brother. If only Pops had understood...

| I started out as beskeptical, trying, probably in vain, to make a statement. But when everyone on other boards started assuming I was a 'he' someone suggested beskeptigal. On new boards I now register as skeptigirl. I've given up trying to make a statement and just refer to myself as skeptical. The word seems to have a negative connotation to some but I don't see it that way at all.
BTW, the only car I ever named was an old Ford I had, 'Fix Or Repair Daily'. A friend of mine named it. The alternative was 'Found On the Road Dead'.

| DV is for Leonardo da Vinchi in 1482 he met the Duke of Milan Ludovik. So 82 marks the beginning of the "Great Conspiracy". You see I have been researching the da Vinchi files for many years and have discovered that a powerful cabal of ... wait... is this the skeptic forum? Damn! I thought I was on the gullible cretin's forum which I also frequent.
Actually it's just my name with dv82(deviate to) in front of it so that I could get an e-mail account on yahoo (surprizingly plain ol matt was taken).

Sadly I never picked up the habit of naming my vehicle, but my dear old Mom used to call our big blue chevy van 'Nellie' and pretend it was a horse. Hmmm... I seem to be remembering why I never named my car.

| A name I've been tempted to use, but never have, is DILLIGAF. If you are a biker, you will know what it means. Oddly, I have yet to see it used by anyone, anywhere.
In my lifetime, I have given several vehicles at least tempory names. Those names were all much too foul, even for me, to post in public fora.

Interesting, filthy. I just googled it to see what it means. It's something I should employ more often...
