I can't find a picture for the sidekick, but the cheapest TV sidekick ever had to be on Cleveland TV. I'm talking about Barnaby's sidekick, the world's only invisible parrot (not pictured here).

That one has always creeped me out as well. When Howdy got going ('40s), we didn't have a TV, and by the time we got one, I had other interests so I never saw all that much of him, either.
