This is my fifth parody of a Chick Tract.

The original was "In the Beginning." It was a fairly standard fare for Chick, using lies and even a reference to Kent Hovind to show how wrong modern science is in challenging Young Earth Creationism. Please read the original, before reading my version.

In no way does my parody reflect the thinking of Jack Chick, or of Chick Publications! Please do not confuse my hatchet-job with a real Chick Tract hatchet job! It's all my fault!

Are Chick's Copyright lawyers gonna forget about the "parody" exception to Copyright law and threaten us for this one?

They've done it before to other boards.

I really liked how you replaced the Bible with Wikipedia... that is until I realized that maybe it hits a little too close to home.

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

Yeah... Wikipedia is a nice place to begin your research, but then if you're a good critical thinker you have to go and actually check the sources they cite, and compare with other independent sources. Can't leave these sort of important details out in an intro to critical thinking.

Anyway, I'm impressed with the amount of work you put into the re-writing here, Half.

The altered contents of this strip might be better considered a "pre-introduction" to critical thinking, or maybe the Classics Illustrated version of the Cliff Notes for the outline of such an introduction's summary page.

As I worked on it, I would write my brief proposed text for each dialog balloon in Notepad. This usually turned out to be more than twice as much text as I could actually fit in. Since Wiki articles are written under pressure to supply sources, I hope anyone reading them will stumble onto these references.

Sure. Now rewrite it without the unnecessary expletives.

The expletives aren't unnecessary at all. They serve a dedicated purpose. And really, if you don't like the way something is written, go make your own.

I feel that I either used too many, or too few expletives. It was neither consistently foul-languaged, nor consistently clean. I count just three (possible) cuss words. "Shit," "bullshit," and "asses" ain't much. Kinda low-grade cuss words, those.

I probably should have used a few more "dirty" words.

I think the dirty words serve the purpose of mocking the whole Chick Tract format of sharing opinions and information. Even if I am an atheist and critical thinker, I would not take this tract seriously or even positively if it were handed to me in seriousness by another freethinker. And I certainly do not respect the actions of the minority of atheists who seriously produce such literature and hand it out in the hopes of converting religious people.

My interpretation of the use of expletives is that the very action of handing someone such a tract of any kind, which promotes narrow-minded self-righteousness, reduces complex philosophical ideas to silliness, and makes those who disagree with you look like bafoons, is rude to begin with. By putting swear words in this parody, Mooner has emphasized the rude and condescending nature of the original tract.

Edited to add: However, I don't think it needs more swear words. Then I think you're just hitting us over the head with a hammer. The three you have right now are perfect in my opinion.

The satan on page 14(or is it pannel 14 /shrug) looks somehow familar, if I could only place him.

Nice parody sir, but I have to confess, that I might swear a bit too much; as I had to re-read it to even notice the 'naughty words'.

Fifth parody? Where's the others? I skimmed around in "Moonscape News" (you know, that little section of the forum that's dedicated just to YOU.......!!!) but I didn't find anything.

Did I just not skim hard enough?

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Another example of this guy's lunacy here.

I really wish I knew( ok was talented enough but lets not split hairs here) how to photshop or something, for I am of the opinion that the gecko could use a set of Billy Graham The Times style horns.
