....with theory of everything

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/main.jhtml?view=DETAILS&grid=&xml=/earth/2007/11/14/scisurf114.xml

I noticed this 'surfer dude' physicist and his E8 - theory of everything - has been getting a bit of discussion over at the BAD Astronomy site. I seem to recall this guy on TV's 20/20, or the like, spotlight a few years ago as a brilliant/genius level 'surfer dude'.
Needless to say, the below pdf of his 'everything theory' is way out of my league to grasp or much less follow. I'm lost after the first paragraph.

edit to add his Wiki page...

Thats pretty cool. Even better if he can get some testable predictions out of for the LHC. If he's right he just won a Nobel.

No doubt. Sounds like the theory has a long way to go for that. We'll have to stay tuned to see how it goes.
Say, Dude...any relation? (sorry, couldn't help that )

The Abstract of the 31-page paper says:
Abstract: All fields of the standard model and gravity are unified as an E8 principal bundle connection. A non-compact real form of the E8 Lie algebra has G2 and F4 subalgebras which break down to strong su(3), electroweak su(2) x u(1), gravitational so(3,1), the frame-Higgs, and three generations of fermions related by triality. The interactions and dynamics of these 1-form and Grassmann valued parts of an E8 superconnection are described by the curvature and action over a four dimensional base manifold.
Well, duh, obviously.

Plus, Lisi uses what looks like the Complete Flower of Life to illustrate. What could be more divinely inspired?:

I'm sure the crackpots will latch onto this, yes.

And no, no relation. Physics, beyond some basics, gives me hives.

If Lisi is right, the multiple-universes hypothesis seems unlikely, as the universe's starting conditions would have been set by the the inter-relationships of the forces of Lisi's hypothesis. That would have implications for philosophy, cosmology, and the religion-science debate we are presently in.

Physics, based as it is so much upon math, gives me the hives, too, Dude. I am totally unqualified to read his paper, though the diagrams are pretty.

I lack the requisite expertise to comment on his paper, really. But it doesn't seem to exclude the possibility of a many-universe scenario, and there are (20 I think?) blank spots to fill in still in his model(which is where he'll be getting his testable predictions from, I think).

It is definitely interesting, and it will be even more interesting to see what turns up when they get the LHC cranking (assuming they can avoid more delays from stupid mistakes).

The lack of free parameters does make the theory promising. It means that once the equations get reduced, there won't pop up a new unknown.

I think it does not look like the Flower of Life. It lacks the circles that is needed for binding the lines, and the different triangular shapes can be rotated around themselves and around the centre. The Circle of Life does not allow that, so that definitely removes the semblance to it.

The math is way over my head, so I would have to rely on a math expert's opinion on the validity of the transformations done. If they are correct, then the field of physics is turning around a corner to look down an awesome looking avenue we never saw before.

I also agree with HalfMooner that the multi-universes-hypothesis, at least with different Universal Constants will probably be shot out of the sky.

Yes, that's what I'd meant to express, but did so poorly: The constants would be explained, and they should only work one way, no matter how many universes there are/were/will be.

I find this so fascinating. In a sense, once we have a working, proven Theory of Everything, humanity will have made its greatest breakthrough in history. We'll have they key to how the universe works! Then we will only have the mere infinite amount of work left to figure out what that means.

We are so fortunate to be living in such interesting times. Beats being goatherds in Sumeria.

Maybe someone who understands the math better will come along and enlighten us.
