Nope, not a prediction that the money will be won, but simply the fact that the JREF has had enough of tomfoolery over the last ten years.
Our expectations at first were that we'd attract major personalities by this means, but they've avoided having to take the test by simply not applying; those who have actually applied are generally honestly self-deluded persons who have difficulty stating what they can do...

...Now, while the JREF earns a certain income from having the prize money very conservatively invested, that sum could certainly be used more productively if it were made freely available to us.
And so on March 6, 2010, an era will come to an end. No longer will we hear, "well, why don't you just use your power to take a million bucks from Randi?"

Prepare, however, for entirely new rounds of shrill "it was all a fraud" accusations prompted by this news.

Yeah, the naïvete; of some of these people is truly astounding.

Rico Kolodzey, the "Breatharian" who said he could go forever without food, never could understand that Randi was not obligated to fly him halfway around the world, pay all his living expenses, pay all test expenses, and send him home, win or lose!

I persuaded Randi to test him after initially refusing. I tried to husband Rico through the process and we even got to approval of the test protocol, but Rico had to have all expenses paid! Randi wasn't even surprised. He said, "they all find a way out before the reckoning!" What a waste of time and energy! I can understand why Randi is shutting the whole thing down.

I understand the Great Stereo Speaker Cable Showdown has been indefinitely postponed, also. Those guys weren't naïve, rather high pressure con men.

I agree; it is time to close up that particular section of the shop. It gave us a good talking point for arguing with the whackadoodles that occasionally ricochet in here, but beyond that, I don't see where it made a lot of impact. As stated, and predicted, the big fish never took the bait. It is worthy of note that those same bottom-feeders rarely if ever (as in: never) show their cowardly, lying faces at any skeptic site including this one. That too, was & remains predictable, and the believers will believe regardless of logic & reason.

But I wonder what Randi's, heh, got up his sleeve for the future.....

Hey Sylvia, you ain't off the hook yet, you fucking skank!
