It looks like Old, Dull Fred & his Westboro Baptist Crunch caught a little break in their lawsuit. It's been reduced to some 5 mil, down from 10.9. What a travesty of justice! It should have been doubled!
I wonder; is the media the basis for Westboro's notoriety? If they held one of their foul, little 'protests' and got no more than a Page 6 paragraph and a short one at that, would they press on or take their insanity away to wallow in it's vitriol in the comfort of their homes?
Probably the former; these people are monomaniacal lunatics and it is something of a mystery to me that none of them have been shot. Yet.

To paraphrase a saying attributed to Everett Dirksen, "Five million here, five million there, and pretty soon you're talking about real money."
The five million penalty will make me happy enough -- especially since every lawyer in America who either hates the Phelpses, is simply greedy, or more likely both, will want to sue them. These suits will no doubt go on until either Westboro is broke, Fred is dead of apoplexy, or he gets a revelation from God All-smitey to quit.

I wouldn't wish such vileness off on the innocent Goonie Birds.
Better we should keep them close to hand and shove a stick through their spokes at every opportunity. After enough road rash accumulates, even the Phelps-Roper trull might get the point.
