Pharyngula discusses a blogpost at the "Expelled the Movie" website where a brand new anti-evolution argument is brought up (new to me at least).

The new film, ” EXPELLED: No Intelligence Allowed" does not presume to bury the theory of evolution… but it declines to praise it, either. As a worldview…no thinking person (certainly no moral person) can view a scientific theory of life based on an undirected, purposeless and random process as anything but pessimism. Certain people, and many scientists are drawn to pessimism, and thus pessimistic scientific theories. But that does not make their theories, or them, for that matter, any more attractive or intelligent.

I'm getting more pessimistic by the day...

Yeah, I called it "the argument from gloominess."

Actually, it's just a run-of-the-mill appeal to consequences. But I hope the catchy name sticks.

I never knew that any scientific theory was either optimistic or pessimistic. Fancy that. It must have been an optimist who came up with that nonsense because a pessimist would know better.

They are activly waiting for the end of the world and we think life will flourish throughout the universe for 'eternity'.

and we're the pessimists.

They're not just waiting, they're hoping and pushing policy they think will help bring it about, like the apocalypse will be the best thing that ever happened to them. And that's optimism when you consider the snowball's chance in hell many of these folks, especially the political ones, will have getting on god's right hand on judgement day.

Also: Why do you think life will flourish throughout the universe for an eternity?
