Hey, I do like this way Yoko is expressing herself....

NEW YORK (Reuters) - John Lennon's sons and widow, Yoko Ono, are suing the filmmakers of "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed" for using the song "Imagine" in the documentary without permission.

"We are disappointed therefore that Yoko Ono and others have decided to challenge our free speech right to comment on the song 'Imagine' in our documentary film," they said in a statement.

You know it's bad when you can spot a straw man in a lawsuit about the movie.

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

I'm actually a huge fan of Yoko Ono's art as well as her music. I think she gets too much of a bad rap.

But back to the topic - has anyone seen the movie? If so, how is the song used? Is it commented on and criticized, and if so, what do they say about it? I'm especially curious because that song has become something of an anthem in a lot of humanist communities. I've heard it played at celebrations and memorials. It was also played at a "Hell House" my friends and I went to in college. One of the scenes in hell was supposed to be John Lennon in hell for being an atheist. Heh heh.

Kristine says that the 10 seconds (or so) of "Imagine" is played "over some archival footage of Josef Stalin, while Ben Stein screams that liberals want to turn our country into what Lennon (or Lenin?) envisioned..."

The fact that the Expelled lawyers are mounting a First Amendment defense against a copyright claim implies that they're a bunch of clowns who will be destroyed in court. They will, of course, claim judicial persecution and judicial activism regardless of the judge's politics.
