I know a number of people who consider The Simpsons to be absolutly the worst show ever to befoul their televisions. Now it seems that Mr. Groening will soon get their ulcers screaming yet louder and in harmony. Dig it:

A long-time character on The Simpsons is to come out of the closet as the creators of the show send their own message about the controversial topic of gay marriages.

The news was leaked by the show's producers, Matt Groening and Al Jean, at a comic convention in San Diego.

So who will it be? Lennie and/or Karl? Pretty shallow, I think.

Not the Comic Book Guy. He's still recovering from a hot, wet affair with Agnes.

Principal Skinner's broom closet love life with Edna seems to have chilled. Possibly...?

I don't think Patty or Selma, either. Too obvious.

Damn, I feel just like the National Enquirer!

How 'bout Groundskeeper Willy? Does he hang out in leather bars after hours?

Ned Flanders......? He hasn't been the same since Maud's death.

Or maybe...... Naw. I'll let the rest of y'all have some fun with it. Tell us who you think it might be and why.

I suppose Mr. Burns and Smithers would be too obvious, as well.

How about Krusty and Side Show Bob? All that smouldering passion can't be good.

I think there is no way to predict it, Matt is just too random for anyone to see his next move (besides this one of course...).

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

Yes, he certainly is, is he not? That's what should make this fun -- trying to get into his head (wouldn't you love to crack a brew with him?).

I think I've got a sort of tenous lead on it. Kinda feels right, but I gotta think about it before making any rash statments.

Krusty and Side Show Bob would be my first guess.

Why is everyone saying Krusty and Sideshow Bob? Does no one remember their history? The numerous murder attempts and trying to frame him...

And I think Smithers and Burns are also out, as first of all Burns is not gay, and that would just be wrong on way to many levels. (Come on, just put this image into your head, Smithers on top of a crusty old wrinkled Burns....)

If its anyone, I would have to go with that fat comic book guy.

c'mon. That much passion has to come from somewhere. Where can you get the deepest hatred? From a deep love. whether recognized or not, Side Show Bob's animosity toward Krusty may be based in a deep yet unrequited love for him. However, Krusty has a daughter by a one night stand. He may be heterosexual.

Smithers already has the multiple dream sequences where Mr. Burns comes on to him in a sexual way. Burns only cares about money and his sexuality is in question. Should that change, instant relationship.

A real shocker might be Mayor Quimby. (Not likely, he was a regular in the bordello.)

I'm a little fuzzy on my Simpson's history, but I think that the hate comes from Krusty somehow ruining Sideshow Bob's childhood (or maybe early career?). But hate doesn't always come from love.

Oh, and btw, I have to ask, who is Cthtulu/Asmodeus? I tried to search for that on the web, and the only thing I got was this site (go figure...).

I currently think; Barney Gumble.

Since he has sobered up, he is clean and tidy, if not debonair. He has a certain artistic talent, as witnessed by the sensitive film he made for a contest (being artistic doesn't mean gay, but many gays are artists). He has never shown an interest in women and has a history of cross dressing. He once shared a hot tub with Linda Ronstadte and never made a move on her (sigh).

Also, Homer, a homophobe, is his clostest friend and, having gotten an internet ordination not unlike mine, he is to perform the ceremony.

Until a stronger candidate comes forth, I'll say: Barney.

Smithers is the most obvious choice to come out of the closet, since he is still mostly closeted. There's no need to drag Mr. Burns into this, as "A long-time character" is going to come out, not two.

But, my guess would be Rainier Wolfcastle. He has already done some gay porn.

"DUFF MAN'S GETTIN' MARRIED!!!"

[Poor, abused first bars of Yello's "Oh, Yeah!" start playing...]

"OOOOOOOOOOH, YEAH!"

[Duff Man pops open a Duff, chugs it]

"GETTIN' MARRIED TO A GUY!"

[Music ends with sound of a needle being dragged across an LP]

"WHO WANTS A DUFF?!?!"

OK, its a longshot, but I'll bet its Kent Brockman, the newscaster. or maybe Apu, the Kwik-e-Mart guy.

The foundation of morality is to . . . give up pretending to believe that for which there is no evidence, and repeating unintelligible propositions about things beyond the possibliities of knowledge.

It's a pity Troy Maclure has died.....what with his hush-hush fetish for fish....coming out of the closet would have been a natural progression.

Mistakes are a part of being human. Appreciate your mistakes for what they are: precious life lessons that can only be learned the hard way. Unless it's a fatal mistake, which, at least, others can learn from.

No so sure about Kent, but Apu is married.

Or maybe he faked his death to get out of the public eye to live a gay life...
