What are the top myths that you think Christians believe about the theory of evolution?

Two that immediately jump to mind are a) that the theory of evolution is concerned with HOW life originated on this planet; and b) that the theory of evolution deals with the Big Bang or other questions of cosmic origins.

Yup, and the tired, old "Evolutionists claim that man came from monkeys" saw, which, of course, is nonsense.

And that one spawned: "If man came from monkeys, then how come there are still monkeys?" To which one might reply: "Why shouldn't there be monkeys no matter what decended from them?"

One myth is that evolution has a direction or goal. You can see this idea when you hear questions like, "do animals ever de-evolve"?

Evolution relies on random chance - this ignores the effect of natural selection in weeding out disadvantagous mutations.

Macro evolution is not just a combination of many micro evolutionary events.

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

That there are no transitional fossils, especially between families, kingdoms and phyla.

There are lots of them...

That "I've seen cats, and I've seen dogs, but I've never seen a dat" is a good argument against evolution.

That evolution is faith-based as is therefore a religion. It isn't either of those.

That evolution is an atheistic conspiracy that will lead to the downfall of morality.
It isn't and it won't.

For me its the idea that the creature which evolved from X is inherently better than X.

This is a key one.

"Evolution is just a theory and is therefore equal to the theory X I have."

Evolution is a scientific theory which means a hypothesis that has amassed significant scientific evidence that highly suggest it is true, but does not necessarily have to occur in accordance with the laws of physics (ie the law of gravity versus the heliocentric theory). Creationism is not a theory at all. It is a story from a book about how ancient people guessed the universe worked. This is important because we currently have more scientific data than the more ancient cultures and as a result, even the hard core creationist (but not all) admit the inability to prove, understand, or experience in reality a god. This is contrary to the guesses posed by the ancients which repeatedly cite natural evidence like the sun for the sun god, the origin of life from apparent non-life, demons causing disease, or the testament of creation about the creator.

Facts! Pssh, you can prove anything even remotely true with facts.

Thanks for all the input by everyone. I try to dispel unthruths about evolution at our church if I can. I feel that Christians should be about the truth, and many will believe Christian authors about what evolution is and discount the actual scientists working in the field. We need to be better than this.

The above one kind of throws me though. I guess this is how I imagine how evolution happens. This is why I started this thread, to discover myths I may have about evolution.

I think you misread it. Ricky was saying that evolution does work on a series of steps (micro evolution) and it is a myth to think otherwise.
