O, save us from such an example of coordination in managing to swiftly shut down much of the city for an obviously false "crisis." A circle-jerk of mutual masturbatory back-patting by city officials isn't going to make them look any less stupid.

How is a "coordinated response" more important than knowing the difference between a real crisis and something in their heads, requiring no such response? They are congratulating themselves for how quickly and thoroughly they screwed up Boston by their stupidity. First the Big Dig, now the Big Fig(ment)?

Sigh. I hope political cartoonists are having a field day in Boston.

Quite possibly true. Their reaction, however, is generally inspired by the paranoia of the people they work (at least theoretically) for. No one in this climate wants to be the guy who gave the "real" terrorist event too little attention. Far too much CYA going in.

Seriously, what kind of terrorist would make a bomb, then put a sign with 50 LEDs on top of it? If the intent is to blow shit up and kill a few people, your plan depends on the device not being noticed.

Perhaps a smart one, all things considered. Most bombs don't really look like bombs, at least as commonly portrayed. There's almost never an exposed red and green wire, and just cutting one will almost certainly not be a good idea in any case.

John's just this guy, you know.

You can make a bomb look like anything you want it to look like, if you have the materials and skill.

The obvious point though is that if you are making a bomb (or perhaps a dozen) and want to set them off and kill/terrorize people, you make them non-obvious.

You put them in places that people will not discover them until they detonate.

If you were going to dress up a bomb with LEDs in the shape of a cartoon character, you'd certainly spend the effort to make the sign look professional, paint on a cartoon network logo to make it look like a legit advertisement, eliminate the duct tape and obvious wiring, etc.

The entire response by Boston officials was overblown and ridiculous.

If I were a Boston terrorist, I would be taking notes.

Facts! Pssh, you can prove anything even remotely true with facts.
