I haven't been here in a while so it's possible that this has already been mentioned:

Despite the slightly fruity name that leads you to suspect that it is a novel in "The Da Vinci Code" spirit, it is (apparently) a serious and well-written book on the topic of the Antikythera Mechanism. The crits and reviews in some of the science mags are pretty good.

I've ordered my copy from Amazon anyway...

I think he have a few threads on the Antikythera mechanism. But these sorts of things are always interesting to read about. Thanks for noting it, and be sure to report back when you've got the book!

Sounds interesting... Be sure to tell us if there is any chapter about homosexual Greeks from Ethiopia (long story).

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

No need for a long story when a single link will do.

By the way, Cune, that's the only other thread we have on the Antikythera mechanism, according to Google.

Hey, I didn't remember that knkavo was in on the earlier thread, either. No "long story" or link needed at all. We're all idiots.

Doh; you are right.
Sorry all about this impromptu and totally useless interlude...
