It is with mixed feelings that I announce that I will step down as an administrator here at SFN. I can't step down as one of the founders of this site, nor would I wish to. But after over ten long years of ignoring almost all other pursuits, due to the time I have put into doing my part to keep SFN what it is, I'm calling it quits.

My plan is to finally finish a book on construction that I have been working on and pursue my interest in song writing, which I have largely ignored for over a decade now. I have also, over the last ten years, turned down several offers to be in bands. The muse is calling…

I will, of course, continue to post here, though some of you might have noticed that my posts of late have become rather infrequent when compared with previous years here. Oh well. Even skeptical activism can become boring if you do it enough.

I will leave it to Dave and @tomic to choose a successor if they feel one is needed. As it was, I stayed pretty far away from the control panel, because in truth, I am a technical idiot. So from that standpoint I will not be missed.

Thank you all the continuing support you have shown for SFN and the support you have given to me in particular. This site is what it is because you, the members, have made it that way.

Anyhow, that's about it. Take care. I promise not to be a stranger around here…

You've had a good run, my brother. We here are all the better off for it. While it saddens me to see you back away, I understand perfectly and wish the best for all of your endevors.

S'ok really, the Theory of Evolution predicts that this will happen to us all, if it hasn't already, one time or 'nother in one place or 'nother.

I wouldn't be a proper skeptic if I didn't point out the date of this resignation. In other news, the Pope has announced Catholicism is a lie and that he is retiring to pursue his love of fly fishing.

Oh fer-crying-out-loud. Guess I should have made this announcement yesterday, or tomorrow. My bad...

I see, so this isn't an april fools' gag. Well, good luck with all of your other stuff. When you pop in, let us know how it's all going. Just don't make any SFN-related songs.

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Well, if you're serious, then this is sad news. For us, I mean. Your patience and even hand set an enlightened tone for the SFN and encouraged all of us to balance keen skepticism with humanity, humor, and compassion. You set a high bar, Kil. I suppose most of regulars aren't aware of the time you spent behind the scenes and the toll it took on your freedom to pursue other interests, so thanks from all of us. Good luck to you in all your future endeavors.

I'll get you for this Humbert. Now I feel like I am reading my obituary. Guilt has flushed me out and turned the joke on me...

But hey, there is always next year!

Dammit! Half of me felt guilty for questioning you, and the other half wondered if a true skeptic wouldn't stick to his guns. Well, I'm glad you're not leaving us, Kil. But save this thread for when you do. I ain't writing that twice...

Man; I am glad not to have noticed that post after it was debunked...

the idea of Kil leaving would have saddened me all day...

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
Carl Sagan - 1996

Well filthy, Ig, Simon, and of course Humbert, thanks for the thoughts. Really! Just so you know, I will never try to pull this particular trick again...

What a relief. I know Dave and @tomic must be relieved. They had someone in mind to replace you, but then they found out he was a little too expensive:

And me you don't have to thank. Because I'm just pissed that there's not really a chance for me to step into the power vacuum. Dammit.

S'ok. We'd have done the same to you had we thought of it. Ah well, next year.....

Oh, I wouldn't have minded being replaced by a great ape. But it does smack of nepotism.

This one was a star in the moving picture shows, so you shouldn't feel at all slighted.

That's the line that sucked me in...when you acted as if it was a mistake that you had it posted on April 1st. Usually, when one pulls such a joke, one fesses up once someone confronts them with it. I was waiting for that, and Humbert's post was it.

As for all the stuff you were talking about doing once you quit, I thought you were being sarcastic.

meh.
